Ubimage shows the photos and videos you have already taken on the live camera view, placed where you took them.
Ubimage only shows photos that carry GPS coordinates and were taken within 50 km of where you are now. If you are somewhere you have never photographed, there is nothing to show.
Check that Settings › Privacy & Security ›
Location Services › Camera is enabled, so that new photos get
coordinates saved into them.
Where you have taken hundreds of photos, usually home, they all land on the same spot and bury the landscape the app is there to show. On the distance scrubber, drag the near end up a little: raise the minimum distance and the photos closer than that drop out of the camera view.
Your favourites and the map are not touched.
The compass needs calibrating. Wave the phone around in a figure of eight a few times. Whenever iOS reports the compass as unreliable the app shows a warning badge. Metal surfaces, cars and magnets throw it off badly.
Altitude comes from the GPS data saved with the photo, and not every photo has it. The app shows “n/a” rather than inventing a value.
Only to read the barometric altimeter, the tiny pressure sensor in iPhone 12 and later. It measures your own altitude far more precisely than GPS can, which is what keeps the pins at the right height on a slope. No fitness, activity or health data is read, and the reading never leaves the device. Deny the permission and the app quietly uses GPS altitude instead.
The instruments panel, behind the compass rose in the bar, always says which of the two is speaking.
Tap the compass rose on the right of the bar. The instruments panel shows
your coordinates, your altitude with its margin of error and its source,
the GPS accuracy and the heading with the compass accuracy. Tap any row to copy
it; rows the phone cannot vouch for read n/a and copy nothing.
The cone comes from the compass direction stored inside the photo. Not every photo has one. Screenshots and images saved from other apps never do, so the cone is drawn only when the information is genuinely there.
